What every importable column means

Reference for every field PostingPal can map from your spreadsheet.

Updated 2026-06-03

Required:

  • Description — free text shown as the item's name. 1 to 200 characters.

Recommended:

  • Category — matched against ~40 built-in categories. Unknown values are kept as custom categories.
  • Quantity — integer ≥ 1. Defaults to 1.
  • Unit price (original) — what you paid, in CAD.
  • Unit price (replacement) — what it would cost to replace today, in CAD. Used as the primary insurance value when present.
  • Line total (original) / Line total (replacement) — total for the row. If unit price is missing, PostingPal computes unit = total / quantity. If both unit and total are present, they must agree within 5%; otherwise the row gets a "mismatch" flag.

Optional:

  • Purchase date — ISO date (YYYY-MM-DD) or common locale formats.
  • Serial number — free text.
  • Shipping tag — one of: sea, air, lts, hand-carry, pouch, private-storage, for-sale. Synonyms (HHE → sea, UAB → air, LTSA → lts) are recognized.

Currency is always CAD. Notes and per-item currency are intentionally not importable; convert before upload and keep notes in your own records if needed.
