Adding your first item with AI

Take a photo, let the AI suggest a description and value, edit anything, save.

Updated 2026-06-03

1. Open the add screen

Tap the big + in the bottom navigation. Pick Photo (single item), Scan multiple (a shelf, drawer, or wardrobe), or Manual (no photo, just type).

2. Capture or pick a photo

On mobile you can shoot a new photo or pick from your gallery. Hold the device steady, fill most of the frame with the item, and avoid harsh backlight. Square crops work best.

3. Let the AI propose details

Within a few seconds the AI fills:

  • Description — short, neutral, includes brand and model when visible.
  • Category — one of ~40 household categories.
  • Estimated value — a CAD figure tuned to your destination's cost of living.
  • Suggested shipping tag (when a destination is set).

4. Edit anything

Every field is editable. The AI suggestion is a starting point, not the final answer. For high-value items (jewellery, art, antiques), always replace the AI estimate with a formal appraisal.

5. Save

The item appears in your inventory immediately and counts toward your claim-pack readiness score.

Tips

  • One item per photo gives the most accurate AI guesses. Use Scan multiple when you have a cluttered shelf.
  • The first AI call on a fresh photo can take 5–10 seconds. Subsequent calls are faster.
  • Free accounts get 10 AI suggestions per month; Plus gets 100. See the AI limits article for what counts.
